📊 Personal Expense Tracker — Simple Guide

Answers to common questions about managing your daily groceries, monthly expenses, and person-to-person debt ledger.

🛒 1. Daily Bazar & Groceries

What is the "Bazar" column used for?

The Bazar section is designed for your daily food, market, and grocery purchases (like rice, fish, vegetables, meat, spices, milk, etc.).

It calculates your daily average spending and keeps track of all individual grocery runs with the exact date and item description.

  1. Go to the 🛒 Bazar panel on your personal dashboard.
  2. Pick a date (or click the quick Today / Yesterday chip).
  3. Enter the item name (or click one of the preset quick chips like Rice, Fish, Egg, Milk).
  4. Enter the amount and click + Add (or press Enter).
Tip: Clicking a date shortcut chip automatically fills today's or yesterday's date for fast 1-click entries!

When you are in an active Mess, any Bazar item you add from your personal dashboard is linked to your Mess:

  • Submitted for Approval: Regular member entries are sent with Pending status to your Mess Manager.
  • When Approved: The item displays in both the Shared Mess and your Personal Bazar list, contributing to your total spending.
  • When Rejected: The item appears in your Personal Bazar table with a Rejected badge, and its amount is strictly excluded from your total spend calculations.

At the top of the Bazar panel, click the ◀ (Previous) or ▶ (Next) arrow buttons, or choose any specific month and year from the month dropdown selector.

Clicking Today immediately returns you to the current active month.

In the item table, hover over the row you want to remove and click the delete (trash) button on the right. A confirmation prompt will ask you to confirm before removing the entry.

⚡ 2. Utilities & Other Expenses

The Utilities & Other column is for non-grocery spending, utility bills, and miscellaneous costs, such as:

  • House rent & service charges
  • Electricity, water, gas, and internet bills
  • Mobile recharge & data packs
  • Transport, rickshaw, or fuel costs
  • Medicine, dining out, and personal shopping

Just like Bazar, when you are in an active Mess, adding a utility item submits it to the shared mess workflow. Approved entries count toward totals, while rejected entries remain visible for your records without contributing to your spending totals.

Yes! Look at the 📊 Combined Spend card at the top of your dashboard. It automatically sums your total monthly grocery spend + utilities and other expenses into one unified figure.

🤝 3. Borrow & Lend (Debit / Credit Ledger)

This section acts as a personal financial ledger between you and other people (friends, roommates, colleagues, or family):

  • Positive Amount (+): You borrowed money from that person (or they paid something on your behalf). You owe them.
  • Negative Amount (-): You gave/lent money to that person (or you paid on their behalf). They owe you.

Enter the person's name (e.g. Rahim) and enter a negative amount (e.g. -500). When you submit, the system marks this as money Rahim owes to you.

Color Guide: Green (- Amount) means money coming back to you. Red (+ Amount) means money you need to pay back.

You can settle up in two ways:

  1. Add a balancing entry: If a friend owed you 500 (-500) and gave you 500 cash today, enter +500 under their name. The net balance becomes 0 (settled).
  2. Clear all records for that person: In the Person Summary box, click the person's pill badge to filter, or click the clear icon on their badge to delete their historical ledger entries.

🔒 4. Privacy, Reports & Excel / CSV Export

Your Borrow & Lend ledger is 100% private to your account only.

For Bazar and Utilities & Other, when you belong to an active Mess, adding items submits them as shared flat entries so the group can split costs accurately.

Click the 📥 Export button in the header of the Bazar or Utilities & Other panel. A sanitized .csv spreadsheet will be downloaded to your device instantly.
